Finland was one of the countries advancing the CSCE process in the 1970's. Our country has worked actively for the development of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe to promote security dialogue and cooperation on the European continent. Finland regards as the major strengths of the OSCE the large number of participating states, its comprehensive approach to security, and its field activities. The OSCE brings together diplomats, military experts, police and border security experts, representatives of the economic and environmental dimension, as well as NGOs promoting human rights and democratic development in order to find solutions to topical security challenges. Finland supports OSCE election observation missions and the work of the field missions for example in the areas of democracy, human rights, and the disposal of small arms and light weapons.
